Homemade Baking Mix (Bisquick)

I don't buy baking mixes, don't have them in my house.  Odd I know.  I find that I already have things like flour, baking powder, shortening and such always on hand, so buying a baking mix would be a waste of money for us that we can't afford.  Every penny helps.  However there are so many recipes out there I am just dying to try that use baking mixes.

While I was digging through the piles of recipes I confiscated from my mother, I found a homemade baking mix recipe.  Score!  Really simple and easy like most of everything else I post, and you probably have everything on hand.

Homemade Baking Mix (Bisquick)

9 Cups All Purpose Flour
1/3 Cup Baking Powder
1/4 Cup Sugar
1 Tbsp Salt
1 Cup Dry Powdered Milk
2 tsp Cream of Tartar
1 1/2 Cup Shortening

Place all dry ingredients in a large bowl or container and mix together.  Cut shortening into dry ingredients until it resembles coarse meal.  Store in an air tight container and use as you would store bought baking mix.

I stored mine in an old ice cream bucket.

I never have baking mixes in my house either...I find them completely unnecessary! Thanks for sharing :)
