Logan County Hamburgers and A Name Change

As some of you may have noticed, I have changed the name of my blog.  Being a newbie to all of this, I never bothered to check to see if other blogs were similar named.  I was so excited to have finally thought of a name, and now it turns that the name was a great one, because someone had the exact same one.  Thinking about it now, its probably a pretty popular one at that too.  I feel like a complete doofus. I apologize for any inconvenience and headaches that I may cause you, chances are it wont be the last.  As for the real owner of Sweet Pea's Kitchen, I am deeply sorry for not checking in the first place and look forward to checking out your yummy recipes.

For those of you who want to check out Christina's blog her site is here.

Anyways on to this super awesome recipe.  A few weeks ago I was surfing the interwebs in look of more recipes to add to my overflowing stack of recipes I haven't tried yet ( I have a problem)  I came across the recipe by Katie lee Joel, and I had to stop myself from drooling over the picture.  Who would have thought that such a simple recipe could look so good. I never actually heard of her till I saw her in the October/November issue of Taste of Home.  Apparently she is the former Mrs. Billy Joel.  I must have been living under a rock.  This recipe is from her first cookbook and she recently released a second.  If all of her recipe are this simple and fantastic I may just have to pick her cookbooks up.  So here I give you a burger recipe...grilled cheese...grilled cheese burger? Whatever you want to call it, it is sooooo good.

For an interview with Katie Lee on her award winning burger go here.

Adapted from The Comfort Table by Katie Lee Joel

1lb Ground Beef
1 Large Egg
1 Medium Onion, Half Grated and Half Thinly Sliced
1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
1 tsp Kosher Salt
1 tsp Freshly Ground Black Pepper
12 Slices of White Bread
3 Tbsp Unsalted Butter, Softened
12 Slices American Cheese

In a medium bowl, combine the beef, egg, grated onion, garlic powder, salt and pepper.  Mix until combined.  Form 6 thin patties.  Heat a large skillet brown patties on both sides, cooking about 3 minutes on each side.  Remove burgers to a paper towel lined plate.  Drain grease from pan.  Spread butter on 1 side of each piece of bread.  In the same skillet place a slice of bread, butter side down.  Top the bread with a slice of cheese, a burger patty, some sliced onions, another slice of cheese and another piece of bread, butter side up.  Cook each sandwich until golden brown, about 2 minute per side.  Serve with you favorite burger toppings such as ketchup, mustard, pickles and whatever tickles your fancy.
